Introduction to the bit

Teaching the horse to respond to the bit is like almost everything else we teach him: We teach him to move away from pressure.

The most important thing we teach a colt is to respond to the bit. The bit is our key to controlling him, and without control, we have a useless horse, or at the very least, a horse that is not fun to ride.
