7 Sacking Out |

When I am sacking out a colt,
there are two things I stress: control and safety.
|
The
term sacking out probably originated when cowboys long
ago would take a gunnysack and rub it all over a colt
to get him accustomed to the feel of being handled. Nowadays,
most young horses are handled regularly. Nonetheless,
I feel that sacking out is still an important part of
the training program. It makes a colt easier and safer
to handle because he is gradually accustomed to things
that might otherwise frighten him.
