Sacking out
When I am sacking out a colt, there are two things I stress: control and safety.

The term sacking out probably originated when cowboys long ago would take a gunnysack and rub it all over a colt to get him accustomed to the feel of being handled. Nowadays, most young horses are handled regularly. Nonetheless, I feel that sacking out is still an important part of the training program. It makes a colt easier and safer to handle because he is gradually accustomed to things that might otherwise frighten him.
