Chapter 10      Driving

Driving
Teaching the horse to respond to the bit is like almost everything else we teach him: We teach him to move away from pressure.

To my way of thinking, driving is a very important step in the starting of a colt. By driving him, you can teach him to move forward, turn, and stop. If you get on a colt that hasn't had this training and he starts running or bucking, you can get into awful trouble. It's like being in a car without brakes or steering.
